Laboratory
services at Roseau Area Hospital are available 24-hours a
day, seven days a week. These services include, but are not
limited to, routine and specialty tests in general chemistry
areas such as liver function, cardiac, electrolytes, and
thyroid tests. The lab provides follow-up testing for
transplant patients, kidney dialysis, cancer markers, plus
pre- and post-chemotherapy tests. Blood transfusions, lipid
studies (cholesterol fractions), coagulation studies for
Comadin (INR) and deep vein thrombosis (quantitative D-Dimer),
and microbiology tests are also available. The lab also has
direct internet access to the Mayo Clinic’s lab for esoteric
tests. |

Sleep Studies |

A sleep study is a test
that is performed to test a person for sleep abnormalities.
The most common of which is Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a condition that occurs when the
muscles of the upper airway partially or completely collapse
during sleep, resulting in the closing of the airway.
Symptoms may include frequent snoring, high blood pressure,
being overweight, morning headaches, not waking up
refreshed, difficulty concentrating or completing tasks at
work, feeling sleepy during the day, dozing off easily
during the day, awake at night gasping for air or choking,
kicking or twitching movements during sleep, pauses in
breathing, and falling asleep while driving. |

Pulmonary Rehab |

Pulmonary Rehab is an
individualized education and muscle conditioning program
designed to help manage individuals that have the following
respiratory problems: chronic bronchitis, asthma, emphysema,
cystic fibrosis, or any other type of chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease. The program, which is held twice a week
for 10 weeks, consists of exercise and education of their
disease process for about an hour per session. Benefits
include enhancement of doing daily tasks, reducing
hospitalizations, increased exercise tolerance and
performance, relief from symptoms of their respiratory
disease (less short of breath), improvement in their
emotional well being, and increased survival rate for some
patients. |

Rehab services are
performed at Lake Therapies, a department of Roseau Area
Hospital & Homes. In addition to the commonly known
rehabilitation categories of Occupational Therapy, Physical
Therapy, and Speech Therapy, Lake Therapies offices in
Roseau, Warroad, and Greenbush offer many specialized, yet
equally important services. These include splint assessments
and fabrication, wound assessment and care, orthotic
assessment and fittings, pre- and post-surgical exercise
programs, athletic injury assessment and treatments, athlete
development programming, and child to adult speech
screenings. |
