– May Walk/Run –
RAHH diabetes event
raises nearly $5,000

Over 200 people participated and many more attended a kickoff breakfast at the third annual diabetes walk in Roseau, raising community awareness and nearly $5,000 to fight the disease.

Hosted by Roseau Area Hospital and Homes, the May Walk/Run was held Saturday, May 6, with proceeds going to the Roseau Area Diabetes Center and the American Diabetes Association.

"The funds raised through this event go toward educational tools, free diabetes screenings like the one held the day of the event, and to hardship situations such as people who cannot afford to buy their own supplies," says Deb Haugen, Senior Leader of Marketing at RAHH. "Funds also go to the American Diabetes Association and are specially ear marked for Camp Sioux, a camp for children with diabetes."

In addition to raising funds, the walk drew awareness of the seriousness of the disease and its impact on the area.

"This disease affects many people in our communities. I think the turnout for this year’s event demonstrates the dedication and support that people have for friends and family members with diabetes," Haugen says.

Oak Crest: The Final Phase

The final phase of construction is nearly completed at Oak Crest Senior Housing, a 43-unit assisted living facility being built on the south edge of Roseau.

With almost all of its units reserved, Oak Crest offers three different sized one-bedroom apartments, plus two-bedroom and efficiency units to residents of various income levels.

According to Cheryl Gumeringer, executive director at Oak Crest Senior Housing, residents will enjoy the openness and friendly design of the dining room and common areas, while appreciating the privacy of their own apartments.
Though independent of Roseau Area Hospital and Homes, Oak Crest will receive contracted services through RAHH’s Home Health Care.

To inquire about occupancy or availability at Oak Crest Senior Housing, contact Cheryl Gumeringer at (218) 463-4783 or by e-mail at: cheryl@oakcrestseniorhousing.com

New RAHH ambulance answers hospital board's call for third rig

Nearly ten years ago, the Roseau Area Hospital Board of Directors envisioned the need for a fleet of three ambulances to effectively service the 2,200 square miles that make up the hospital's service area.

That vision was made real recently when a sleek new aerodynamic rig was added to the existing fleet of two units.

"This third ambulance is especially meaningful as it represents the foresight of our Board of Directors," says Keith Okeson, President/CEO of Roseau Area Hospital and Homes.

The hospital's EMS team includes 19 on-call Emergency Medical Tech-nicians (EMTs) who provide around the clock ambulance service and emergency care.
